Canada's Feminist Trade Policy

An alternative to austerity trade politics?

Mar 26, 2019

This week we feature a paper authored by Dr. Laura Macdonald (Carleton University) and Nadia Ibrahim (Tax Justice Network) on feminist trade policy in Canada. They posit that "free trade and austerity policies are linked under the umbrella of neoliberalism" and trace the lasting impacts of austerity measures, globally, since the financial crisis. The crux of their argument, however, lies in their claim that "both austerity policies and free trade have a disproportionate (negative) impact on women.

Laura presented this paper at our last conference in Berlin and we will be posting her presentation in the coming weeks.

You can find this paper on our Research Page under 'Case Studies'.
