Good morning austerity readers. Today we feature a presentation from Jesse Whattam, a graduate student at Carleton University, Canada and researcher at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA). Jesse's presentation examines the nature and history of childcare policy in Canada, with a particular interest in the role of fiscal policy across federal and provincial levels. Jesse's analysis indicates that while childcare costs have risen substantially over the years, funding constraints and a 'hands-off' approach for much of the 21st century by the federal government has only exacerbated the issue.
You can find the presentation on our Research Page under 'Spending, Reform, Marketization'. We will post the full paper from Jesse in the coming weeks!
We'll post new content every other Tuesday morning and our AltAusterity Digest Friday mornings. To keep up with our work, you can subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Twitter @AltAusterity and join the #altausterity conversation!
