Economic Policy Influence

Welcome back Austerity readers! Today we have the full paper from Dr. Brendan O'Rourke and Dr. John Hogan (Dublin Institute of Technology) on the role of ideas in influencing economic policy in Ireland. Drs. O'Rourke and Hogan examine the networks and flows of internal and external knowledge which shapes economic policy. Influential actors include think tanks, lobbyists, the media, and economic experts, but also internal institutional or individual knowledge within policy making processes themselves. The ideas reflected in 'privileged voices' may result in more narrow policies, particularly if the process is not opened up to alternative voices or the public.
