Employment Change and the Irish Crisis

On this fine day we bring you a presentation by Dr. James Wickham on research he conducted with Alicja Bobek for the Think Tank for Action on Social Change (TASC), located in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Wickham's research traces labour market trajectories, particularly in terms of employment quality. He and his co-author found that there was a shift in the distribution between 'lovely' and 'lousy' jobs - those at the high and low ends of employment quality - to a 'diamond' shape. This means that there is growth in jobs at both the high and low end of employment quality, but a hallowing out of the middle.
