Finance, Austerity, and Globalization Intersect

Good morning Austerity Readers! This week we have the paper for Dr. Robert O'Brien's presentation on the human consequences of global tax abuse for marginalized populations. Dr. O'Brien connects the global networks by which transnational financial institutions and regulators based in the global north shape the lives of vulnerable populations across the world. This paper reminds us, also, that a) there are tremendous human costs to profit, and they are frequently hidden; b) austerity is not limited to governments; and c) national decisions are not the only factors which determine fiscal policy.
