Negotiating Austerity?

Good afternoon, AltAusterity Readers! Today we bring you a presentation paper from Bryan Evans (Ryerson University), Stephen McBride (McMaster University), and James Watson (McMaster University), titled "Negotiated Austerity? A Comparative Survey of Social Concertation in Canada, Denmark, Ireland, and Spain". The authors unpack the various forms of social concertation between trade unions, capital, and the state, and how they emerged across Europe in order to play a political and economic role in the process of post-war reconstruction.

This paper provides a comparative analysis of neo-corporatism in Canada, Denmark, Ireland, and Spain and is attempts to understand neo-corporatism as an expression of class relations and the uneven distribution of political and economic power between capital and labour.
