Launch of a Nationally Representative Canadian Survey of Sex in Canada

Their survey will be the first of its kind to combine behaviour and attitudinal data, producing new knowledge about the overlaps and contradictions between individuals' thoughts and actions. This survey is currently being administered online to nationally representative panels of participants. Their survey will consists of the widest possible swath of Canadians: residents of Canada, age 18 and up, who are able to complete a survey in English or French across all provinces. The survey includes social demographics, multiple measures of sexual behaviours, and social and political attitudes. This study will be conducted alongside a survey by collaborators from Indiana University's Center for Sexual Health Promotion in the United States. Administering surveys simultaneously to Canadians and Americans will produce uniquely rich comparative datasets on sexual behaviour and attitudes. This will enable researchers to make cross-national comparisons, both at the national level and for particular subpopulations, such as youth, rural residents, etc. Such comparisons will help us understand the extent to which cultural and policy differences co-vary systematically both within and across nations.
