This weekend the annual meetings of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature take place in Denver. Numerous people from the Department will be delivering papers.

Saturday, November 17
- Dr. Matthew Thiessen presents “The Gentile Problem of Romans 1 and the Implied Audience of Paul’s Letter to Rome”
- Marcus Evans presents “The Man with the Iron Fists: Anti-Racism and Afro-Asian Solidarity in Film”
Sunday, November 18
- Michael Brooks Johnson presents "You Will Say on That Day, 'I Thank You, O Lord,' (Isa 12:1): Hodayot Thanksgiving Psalms as Realizations of Isaiah's Eschatological Thanksgiving (Isa 12:1-6)”
- Dr. James Benn presides over a session on Vision and Visualization in Art, Alchemy, and Ritual: Exploring Daoist Modes of Perception.
- Dr. Jeffrey Kotyk and Ruifeng Chen will present at the Society for the Study of Chinese Religions luncheon. Dr. Kotyk will present "Buddhism, Daoism and Astrology in Medieval China" and Ruifeng will present “Scripture Clusters from Dunhuang: Chinese Buddhist Apocrypha and Translated Scriptures with the Same Colophons.”
- Dr. Eileen Schuller responds to a series of papers on Deuterocanonical Prayers
- John VanMaaren presents “Transformative Concepts and Troublesome Knowledge: Toward a Consensus of Threshold Concepts in Biblical Studies”
- Dr. Daniel Machiela presents “Writing, Revelation, and Knowledge in the Aramaic Texts from Qumran”

- Finally, there will be a panel discussion of Dr. P. Travis Kroeker’s Messianic Political Theology and Diaspora Ethics
Monday, November 19
- Katharine Fitzgerald presents “The Function of Aseneth: Her Transformation from an Egyptian Priestess to an Israelite Cultic Figure”
