The Department of Religious Studies is pleased to host Dr. Madison Pierce (Tyndale University College). Dr. Pierce will speak on the use of Greek Isaiah in Hebrews and the Catholic Epistles. Feb. 14, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Feb 01, 2018

On February 14, Dr. Madison Pierce (Tyndale University College) will speak on the use of Greek Isaiah in Hebrews and the Catholic Epistles.

Abstract:

Hebrews and the Catholic Epistles, like many other early Jewish and Christian texts, exhibit an influence from the depictions of eschatology and messianism in Isaiah. Many of these citations are read with Jesus in view, and various explanations about the authors’ theologies have been offered to facilitate this reading strategy. Rather than beginning with their theology, this paper will begin with their base texts in Greek Isaiah highlighting features of these passages that allow for messianic and/or christological interpretations.

All are welcome!

Location: University Hall 122
Time: February 14, 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
