We will have the following changes to our usual hours: closed all day on Monday May 22nd (Victoria Day). Please consult the schedule for Mills Library for more information.

We are also instituting on-demand Saturday hours. Please let the Analysts know if you wish to work in the RDC on any of the following Saturdays. We will be open on an 'appointment' basis. You can email Anna at rdc3@mcmaster.ca, or write your name on the sign-up sheet by the front door in the RDC. Events
The Fraser Mustard/Dan Offord Lectureship will be held on Thursday May 11th, 2017 at McMaster Innovation Park - room 1CD - at 9- 11am. This year's presenter is Dr. Nancy Reichman (PhD, MBA, BA) - an economist with a broad portfolio of linkages between socioeconomic status and health. She will present preliminary findings from 3 new research projects involving infant health, the effects of welfare reform, and socioeconomic disadvantage across the life course. All are welcome to attend. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

New data sets at the RDC
In the upcoming weeks we will be receiving new data sets and surveys at the McMaster Research Data Centre. Please see the information below. Researchers interested in accessing these data sets are encouraged to submit proposals!

National Apprenticeship Survey (NAS)

The National Apprenticeship Survey (NAS) collects information to understand apprenticeship‐related issues, as there is a critical need for highly skilled tradespeople in Canada. This cross‐section survey collects information on the work and training experiences of apprentices before, during and after their involvement with their apprenticeship program. This includes the factors that affect apprentices completion and certification, the motivations that brought them to the skilled trades, experiences with training, and outcomes of apprenticeship programs.

This survey was designed in partnership with Employment and Social Development Canada. It targeted registered apprentices in the ten provinces and the three territories for two types of apprentices (completers and discontinuers) and for certain reference years (2010‐13). A one‐phase stratified sample was designed for this survey and a total sample of approximately 29,000 respondents was targeted. The goal of the sampling was to ensure good representation of various domains of interest, such as gender and major trade groups. Researchers interested in education and training, labour, and education outcomes may find this a useful dataset.
