Please note the upcoming changes to the usual centre operating hours this month:

Saturday Hours - On Demand

This month we will be offering on-demand Saturday hours.  We will be open on an 'appointment' basis, only if requested - this will be done through the online booking system (at booked.mcmaster.ca/rdc/) 

Offered dates for Saturday hours this month are:

REMINDER: RDC reopening protocols

A reminder that we must still comply with campus requirements, so researchers MUST complete the COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool prior to coming to campus.  We will ask that you show the assessment results (e.g. on your phone) to an Analyst when you arrive at the RDC. 

 

 

New data sets at the RDC: 

General Social Survey - Giving, Volunteering and Participating (GSS GVP), and Caregiving and Care Receiving (GSS CCR) - 2018

The two primary objectives of the General Social Survey (GSS) are to 1) gather data on social trends in order to monitor changes in the living conditions and well-being of Canadians over time; and 2) to provide information on specific social policy issues of current or emerging interest. 

The Giving, Volunteering and Participating cycle is the result of a partnership of federal government departments and voluntary sector organizations that includes Canadian Heritage, Health Canada, Employment and Social Development Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, Statistics Canada, Imagine Canada, and Volunteer Canada. This survey is an important source of information on Canadian contributory behavior, including giving, volunteering and participating. The objectives are threefold:

1. to collect national data to fill a void of information about individual contributory behaviors including volunteering, charitable giving and civic participation;
2. to provide reliable and timely data to the System of National Accounts;
3. to inform both the public and voluntary sectors in policy and program decisions that relate to the charitable and volunteer sector.

The Caregiving and Care Receiving cycle collects information on Canadians who provide care to family and friends with a long-term health condition, physical or mental disability or problems related to aging. The survey also covers individuals who receive this care and about the challenges both groups face. Data from this survey will help us to better understand the needs and challenges confronting these Canadians, and allow policy makers to design programs that meet their needs.
